Bahari Pirate Coin Necklace
From the wreckage of the Spanish brig El Cazador comes this large, spectacular “pieces of eight” coin. El Cazador, laden with silver, went missing in 1784 while sailing from Veracruz, Mexico to New Orleans. In 1993 the crew of the Mistake drew up their fishing nets to discover silver coins among their catch. Over 200 years after its mysterious disappearance, El Cazador was found.
This fine example of a 8 reales or “pieces of eight” features a bust of King Carlos III of Spain with the inscription CAROLUS III DEI GRATIA (by the grace of God) with the year 1783. On the reverse is the crowned shield of Castile & Leon with the Pillars of Hercules and the motto PLUS VLTRA, (more beyond).
Along the large 18K yellow gold chain are Tahitian pearls and our Bahari star elements, some set with diamonds, 0.08ctw. It measures 18” in length.
